Chippin Jab Riddim – Mr Roots

By the time Mr. Roots got to Chippin Jab Riddim in 2014, his WIZ Records catalog was already leaning hard into Grenada’s jab jab identity, and this set catches that chipping pace in a bright, festival-ready groove. The riddim lives in that sweet spot between ragged jab energy and cleaner groovy soca swing, which is why Terra Kid’s “Set And Ready” and Pupa Leendi’s “Sort Me Out” land so easily; one pushes the fete mood forward, the other keeps the tune sly and catchy. Notorious’ “Bang Di Bumpa” and Rayzor RQB’s “Soca Rum and Gyal” keep the rum-shop energy in view, while Yankey Boy’s “Pullover” closes things out with a more straightforward call to move. Released in March 2014, it sat right alongside WIZ’s other early-2014 jab-focused outings and helped push that Grenadian sound a little wider.
