Kinky Wine Riddim (2012) – Mr Roots

Kinky Wine rides on a brisk, waist-moving soca groove with just three cuts, and that small lineup keeps the whole thing tight. Benjai’s title tune sets the tone with the kind of playful Carnival energy the rhythm is built for, while Maximus Dan’s “Look Lively” pushes harder into party-starting territory and Rayvon’s “Felony” adds a slicker, more international edge. Mr Roots doesn’t overcrowd the riddim; he leaves enough space for the percussion to pop and the bass to stay nimble, which suits the 2012 soca moment well, when producers were chasing straight-to-the-road anthems rather than overworked arrangements. It’s a compact release, but the three voices give it enough range to keep the riddim moving.
