CHINA TOWN RIDDIM produced by HI PROFILE 1998
China Town Overview
In 1998, a new dancehall riddim started its journey in the heart of the studio. The craftsman behind it was the producer HI PROFILE, known for his sharp ear and ability to create riddims that light up the dance floor. HI PROFILE had already made a name for himself in the Jamaican music scene, working with top labels and shaping the sound of late ‘90s dancehall. The China Town Riddim was built for movement. HI PROFILE layered hypnotic beats and driving bass, making sure every sound was ready for the bashment. As the riddim took shape, it drew in some of dancehall’s most exciting voices. Beenie Man Ft Goofy stepped up with “Dark Glass,” a track that quickly caught attention. Beenie Man, already famous for his hit “Who Am I (Sim Simma),” brought his signature energy, while Goofy matched him with a lively style. Goofy, who also performed “Dark Glass” solo, was known for his playful lyrics and had a strong run in the late ‘90s. Tolga added his own flavor with “Waterloo,” weaving his vocals through the riddim’s pulse. When the set dropped, it was clear it was made for the dance. Sound systems picked it up fast, and selectors kept it in rotation. The China Town Riddim still gets respect from dancehall fans and selectors today, showing how a well-crafted riddim and the right artists can create a lasting impact.
