Top Shottas Riddim arrived in 2012 from RSQTHP Music Group, a Kingston outfit with a short run of releases that year and a clear ear for streetwise dancehall. The project is tied to producer Survivor Slim and the Black Out Squad, with Xyclone fronting the concept around Spragga Benz as the model “top shotta” figure. It lands as a hard-edged, hype-heavy juggling set that keeps the energy direct and the hook work to the point.

The sound is stripped and aggressive rather than glossy: punchy drums, a tense minor-key loop, and enough open space for each singer to cut through. Stylo G’s “Bolt” gives the riddim one of its sharpest crossover moments, tying speed and victory to the Usain Bolt name with the kind of chant-ready phrasing that sticks fast. Red Rat turns up twice, on “Girlsman Anthem” and “Under Gyal Frock, ” bringing his sly, veteran delivery back into the mix. Delly Ranx’s “Remain the Same” adds a steadier, more reflective tone, while D’Angel’s “Never” and Magazeen’s “Polo” keep the set in active rotation with club-ready cut-and-paste energy.

Elsewhere, Deva Bratt and Xyclone open with “Top Shottas Anthem, ” which sets the tone for the whole project, while Bawse Dawg, Ninja Kid, Ratigan, Esco, and the Brik Tearz and Raxeen cut help fill out a roster that feels rooted in the era’s dancehall circuit.
