Black Shadow Records’ Buzz Riddim, issued in 2001, is a sharp early-2000s dancehall set packed with names that helped define the era, including Beenie Man, Capleton, Cutty Ranks, Elephant Man, Mr Vegas, Mr Easy, Cobra, Singer J and Sean Paul. The riddim is best remembered for Sean Paul’s Give Me the Light, the track that helped push the rhythm into much wider circulation, while Elephant Man’s Haters Wanna War and Cobra’s Press Trigger add extra weight to the lineup. Built by the Miami-based Black Shadow camp, the release captures that brisk, heavy pulse of the period and shows how a single rhythm could carry both street-level energy and crossover potential.
