Back in 2018, soca was leaning hard into quick-hit road music, and Burnt Clutch Riddim fits that moment with a compact seven-track run from Impulse Productions. The production keeps the energy clipped and jumpy, with enough bounce to carry Blacka Da Clone’s “New To This Thing” and Temptress on “Cockatoo, ” while Scatter’s “Rampruff” and Young G’s “Sandwich” push the groove in a more playful, chant-ready direction. Penguin also turns up twice, including the instrumental, which gives the riddim a little extra room to breathe at the end.
