E5 Records’ Beach Life Riddim landed in the heart of summer 2014 as a bright, party-first dancehall project with a beachside pulse and a clean, contemporary bounce. The production sits in that lane of breezy but driving riddims that work just as well in a day party as they do in a late-night juggling set, with a sunlit melodic feel underneath the drum pattern and enough space for each vocalist to ride the groove differently.

The lineup is lean and well chosen: Jahmiel on “Day Dreaming, ” Denyque on “How To Rave, ” Chi Ching Ching and Bastic joining forces on “Lovely Day, ” Versatile with “Party Yah Nice, ” and Popcaan on “Unruly Party” in both explicit and radio form. The cut that pulls the most attention is Popcaan’s, not just because of his profile, but because he folds the riddim into his trademark summer-party mode with the kind of crowd-moving energy that had already become a calling card.
