PROMISCUOUS RIDDIM produced by ZJ DIAMOND 2014
Promiscuous Riddim came out in 2014 from ZJ Dymond’s Full Chaarge Records, the same camp that had been pushing his name through ZIP 103 FM and the local dancehall circuit. The release sits in that mid-2010s lane where bright, hook-heavy juggling was still built to work in sound system rotation and on radio alike. Its backbone is fast, sharp, and dance-floor minded, with a slippery melodic pull that keeps the rougher edge from feeling too cold.
The standout cuts are easy to hear. Demarco’s Gyal Anthem brings his seasoned flirtation with girl tunes and big-room confidence, while Gage’s Kitty Cat became the version that really carried the riddim’s profile. Gage, a Jamaican dancehall deejay known for slick patter and a gritty, streetwise delivery, sounds especially at home here. Kalado’s Tun It Da Way Ya adds a younger, more current voice to the juggling, and his expressive style helps the track cut through. Propally’s Whirlwind gives the project some fresh blood, while RDX close things out with True Friend, bringing their polished, party-ready chemistry to the rhythm.
What makes Promiscuous Riddim stick is the balance between rawness and melody. It has enough bite for hardcore dancehall sets, but the clean, catchy phrasing on the strongest cuts gave it crossover life. That is why it was still being singled out later in the year as one of 2014’s more memorable dancehall riddims.
