In 1996, the sound system cut of the Battery Riddim brought new life to dancehall sessions. Selectors quickly picked up on its fresh energy, and it became a favorite for parties and street dances. The riddim’s strong bass and catchy hooks fit perfectly with the dancehall style of the mid-90s, a time when Jamaican music was reaching new audiences both at home and abroad. The Battery Riddim was produced by Steelie & Clevie, a well-known production duo in Jamaica. Steelie & Clevie were famous for shaping the digital dancehall sound, and their influence can be heard in the crisp drums and driving rhythm of this release. Their work helped set the standard for dancehall production in the 1990s. Turning to the artists, Buccaneer stands out with his track "Hate Her So." Buccaneer was already known for his unique pirate-themed style and had hits like "Bruk Out." His playful delivery on this riddim brought extra excitement to the dance. General B’s "Na'w Scare Me" added a bold, confident voice. General B is well known as a member of the dancehall group Monster Shack Crew, which had several popular songs in the late 1990s. Spragga Benz completed the lineup with "Rasta George." Spragga Benz was gaining international attention at this time, especially with his 1999 hit "She Nuh Ready Yet (Hype Up)."
