BASSIX RIDDIM COOPERATION-DEFENDER II 2007
Bassix Overview
In 2007, reggae music was full of the classic one drop rhythm, a sound that comes from Jamaica and is the heart of roots reggae. The one drop is easy to feel—it’s the steady, deep drum and bass that makes you want to move. At that time, many producers and arrangers were bringing back the old-school reggae style but with fresh energy. The Bassix Riddim is a good example of this revival. The arranger played a big part in shaping the sound, making sure it kept that vintage reggae feel while letting each artist add their own style. The riddim gave a strong base for different voices and messages. Captain Joe Morgan’s “True What Dem Say” stands out on the riddim. Joe Morgan is known for his powerful voice and roots reggae style. Conscious Fiyah & Jahcoustix come together on “Faith,” blending their talents. Jahcoustix is a German reggae singer who has toured worldwide and worked with many reggae legends. Fitta Warri’s “Ganjatown” brings a conscious message, while Flow Bradley’s “Song For Burgi & Harry” adds a personal touch. Ganjaman’s “Hoffnungslos” shows his reggae style, which is well known in the German reggae scene. Each artist uses the one drop base in their own way. Together, their songs make the Bassix Riddim a special part of 2007’s reggae releases, showing the strength and unity of reggae culture.
