Anger Management Riddim – Daseca Records

Daseca Records’ Anger Management Riddim landed in 2004 and quickly became one of the producer camp’s early calling cards, the kind of dark, steely dancehall juggling that gave young singers room for melody and deejays room for threat. Daseca was the production team formed by Craig “Serani” Marsh and the Harrisingh brothers, David and Craig, and this release sits near the start of their run before they became one of the more reliable hit-making units in the genre.

The riddim has that hard Kingston edge: clipped drums, a tense minor-key pulse, and a spare instrumental bed that leaves the vocals exposed. It is aggressive without being muddy, which is part of why it worked so well for a broad range of voices. Bounty Killer’s Talk To Dem brings the rough talk and authority he was already known for, while Beenie Man and Martina’s Real Gangstas adds a more playful, conversational flip. Alaine’s Only For You gives the project a softer emotional center, and Daville’s No New Friend sits neatly in that more melodic lane. Elephant Man’s Dirt Bed keeps the energy high, and Mavado’s Dem Nuh Real Mccoy is the cut that changed the whole conversation, turning his debut on the riddim into an early career breakthrough.

Elsewhere, Bling Dawg, Flex, Jagwa, Kebarky, Kiprich and Predator help give the riddim the kind of full-crew juggling that defined the era. Anger Management works because it balances gun talk, loyalty songs, loverman pressure and straight-up swagger without losing its shape.
