African Riddim, credited to Penthouse, Intel Diplo and Chris, is a 1977 roots cut anchored by Peter Tosh’s original African and his African Version, with later versions from Fred Locks, Lukie D, and the large all-star African rendition featuring Gramps Morgan, Beres Hammond, Bushman, Tony Rebel, Queen Ifrica, Louie Culture, Marcia Griffiths and Buju Banton. The production note ties it to Donovan Germain alongside Peter Tosh and Hugh Chris, which gives the riddim an unusual cross-era link between classic Wailers-era foundation and later Penthouse revival energy. With only five tracks and eleven artists across the set, it keeps the focus tight on one strong theme and one of Tosh’s best-known anthems.
