Aaxium Riddim – Tiger Eye

Aaxium lands in that mid-2000s dancehall pocket where the drums are clipped and forward, but the energy still feels loose enough for the party. Tiger Eye lines up a fairly deep cut of voices here, and Capleton’s “Badness (Rmx)” jumps out first with that rough, militant edge he could make feel almost tailor-made for a juggling riddim. Straika D’s “Tiré Tchou La (Rmx)” and Tygris’ “Assez Joué” keep the heat moving in a more regional, street-level way, while the stray “Version” cut at the end gives the whole set a proper sound-system finish. With 11 tracks and a couple of remix treatments in the mix, this one sits squarely in 2007, when dancehall compilations were still doing the heavy lifting between local scenes and wider Caribbean ears.
