Eight cuts and seven voices give Rainfall Riddim a compact, sound-system feel, with Aaron Kedar, Deanie Ranx, Determine, Fire Fly, Seargant D and Starkey Banton all circling Ruff Cut Band’s 2007 production. Determine’s “Yu Know Yu Baby Pupa” is the one that keeps pulling the ear back, while Starkey Banton gets two slots here, “Lion Roar” and “Smoking Ban, ” which helps give the set a little extra muscle. The rhythm itself sits in that mid-2000s dancehall pocket, sturdy and uncluttered, with a version cut from Ruff Cut Band tucked in at track five so the instrumental can carry its own weight. Even the title says what this one is about: a tight, rain-themed juggling with the band holding the center and the vocalists threading around it.
