Ready Or Not Riddim – Emudio Records

Ready Or Not Riddim found Emudio Records at an early, important moment. The label was fronted by Emanuel Schirmer, a German-born producer who planted himself in Jamaica and used the project as one of his first official calling cards. In the years that followed, Emudio kept pushing dancehall and later scored bigger attention with Genna Bounce, but Ready Or Not is the release that introduced the imprint’s sound and direction.

The riddim sits in a lively mid-tempo pocket, with enough bounce for aggressive chanting but enough space for melody and phrasing to breathe. It has the feel of a juggling cut for the dance, with the vocalists moving between prayer, street talk, and self-motivation. Spragga Benz’s Hustle and Pray brings veteran weight and that seasoned Kingston cadence. Elephant Man’s Not A Game adds the rowdy, elastic energy he has been known for since Scare Dem Crew and his solo breakout years. Chino’s Pray Fi Mi Enemies gives the rhythm a more reflective, almost devotional turn, drawing on the clean, contemporary dancehall style that made him stand out as Freddie McGregor’s son. Laden’s We Did It and Bramma and Krucial’s G. G. O. D keep the project rooted in street ambition, while Versatile, Flexxx, Deablo, and the rest fill out the set with sharp, competitive cuts.

Released in 2015, the riddim pulled in a strong mix of established names and younger voices, including Brilliance, Snypa Kyng, Stein, O. C and 4-5th, and that balance is part of its appeal. It sounds like a label making its first real statement and doing it with enough confidence to stand beside bigger dancehall names.
