Zone 9 rides in on a lean, mid-tempo dancehall pattern that leaves plenty of room for the deejays to cut through, and the whole thing feels sharpened for selector use rather than radio gloss. Takeova’s “Look It” sets the tone with a quick, clipped delivery, while Ash’s “Dead Zone” and Chikie Grainz’s “Tek Time” push the riddim into that tough, street-ready pocket you expect from a 2019 juggling. Malakhii Records and Whisky Records keep the project tight at nine cuts, with the track names doing a lot of the heavy lifting — “Keep Going, ” “My Life, ” “Gyal Zone, ” “Any Weh” — but it’s the consistency of the rhythm that gives the release its pull.
