Day 1 Riddim – Simpac Music

Simpac Music’s Day 1 Riddim sits neatly in that late-spring 2018 wave of lean, three-song dancehall projects, and the title is pretty apt: it’s all about setting the tone and getting straight to business. Diligence opens with “Be Wise, ” a no-nonsense cut that leans into the kind of advice-laced patter that still lands best over a stripped-back riddim, while J Rile’s “Mi Genna” brings a more personal, street-ready edge. Prohgres closes it out with “Day One, ” which feels like the most obvious fit for the rhythm’s name and keeps the energy focused. Simpac kept the rollout tight too, with the whole thing landing on May 4, 2018 as a compact three-track release, the sort of quick-hit drop that was common in dancehall at the time.
