Simpac Music’s Day 1 Riddim sits neatly in that late-spring 2018 wave of lean, three-song dancehall projects, and the title is pretty apt: it’s all about setting the tone and getting straight to business. Diligence opens with “Be Wise, ” a no-nonsense cut that leans into the kind of advice-laced patter that still lands best over a stripped-back riddim, while J Rile’s “Mi Genna” brings a more personal, street-ready edge.
