Yammie Music Riddim – Yammie Music

Yammie Music’s 1989 one-riddim set has that late-’80s dancehall snap: lean, nimble, and packed with singers and deejays who knew how to ride a busy groove without crowding it. Admiral Bailey’s “Turn Off The Heat” and Anthony Malvo’s “Three Times A Lady” give the project two different angles straight away, while Tony Rebel’s “Don’t Let Them Use You” and Johnny P’s “Grammy Body” keep the energy sharp and streetwise. Captain Barkey, Pad Anthony and Tiger are in there too, which helps underline how well this Yammie cut sat across voices that could work both melody and chat. It’s a tidy 10-track set, and the little surprise is how smoothly Singing Melody slides into that company.
