WINDING SKILL RIDDIM produced by VP RECORDS 1990
Winding Skill Overview
Sound system culture has always been at the heart of reggae music. In 1990, a new reggae rhythm project helped keep this tradition alive. The project echoed the classic reggae sounds that were popular at Jamaican street dances and parties. The rhythm was built for selectors and DJs, making it easy to mix and play for long sessions, just like the old days. The producer behind this project was VP RECORDS. Founded in 1979 in New York by Vincent and Patricia Chin, VP RECORDS is one of the most important reggae labels in the world. The label is known for bringing dancehall and reggae music to wider audiences. VP RECORDS has released many influential compilations and helped launch the careers of many reggae stars. This reggae rhythm brought together a strong lineup of artists. Ian Sweetness & Stonewall delivered the track “I Keep Holding On,” showing their skill with smooth vocals and steady flow. Little Richie’s “I’m Lonely” added a heartfelt touch. Little Richie is known for his roots reggae style and has been active since the 1970s. Laura Star gave a soulful performance with “Make It Real.” Nardo Ranks, who is known for his 1990 hit “Dem A Bleach,” brought energy to “One In A Million Sound.” Tweeta Bird’s “Only You” added more variety to the lineup. Each artist brought their own style, but all tracks stayed true to the sound system tradition.
