Why Birds Follow Spring is a 1967 roots-era riddim built around a classic cut first produced by Duke Reid for Treasure Isle, then carried across later versions by Coxsone Dodd, Bunny Lee, Joe Gibbs and Errol Thompson, and Al Campbell. The selection brings together Alton Ellis and The Flames on the original 1967 vocal, with later takes from Alton Ellis, Hortense Ellis, Errol Dunkley, Cornell Campbell and The Eternals, and a Joe Gibbs and The Professionals instrumental side, giving the set a broad, vintage studio feel. With only nine tracks, it moves between soulful harmony, deep rocksteady, and tougher late-70s dubwise interpretations, while keeping Alton Ellis at the center of the story.
