Wave Overview
In 2011, reggae music was seeing a wave of new riddims that mixed roots tradition with modern production. The Wave Riddim project arrived at just the right time, echoing the spirit of classic reggae while adding a fresh energy. This riddim became a favorite in sound system sessions, where its dub-influenced style stood out. Much of the riddim’s unique sound comes from its dub engineer. Their work brought deep bass and echo effects, giving each track a powerful, atmospheric feel. The engineer’s careful use of reverb and delay helped the music connect with both longtime reggae fans and new listeners. Behind the release was the producer PROMO. Known for working with both upcoming and established reggae artists, PROMO has built a reputation for high-quality productions. Over the years, PROMO’s releases have gained attention in reggae circles, making the label a recognized name among selectors and DJs. The project features three artists, each bringing their own style. Lexx delivers "How Dem Gyal Yah Wine So," a track that showcases his smooth vocals and catchy melodies. Teflon appears with "Rr," adding his signature conscious lyrics and energetic performance. Sizzla, one of reggae’s most respected voices, contributes "Turning Me On." Sizzla is known worldwide for songs like "Thank You Mama" and has released over 50 albums in his career, earning a Grammy nomination for his album "The Messiah" in 2014. Together, these artists and the Wave Riddim captured the excitement of 2011 reggae, blending roots, dub, and vocal power into a memorable release.
