Wall Cracka Riddim – Jay-Crazie Records

Out of the 2016 dancehall run, Wall Cracka Riddim feels like one of those Kingston-ready juggling sets that came in hard and lean, with Jay-Crazie Records lining up a sharp mix of voices around a militant, street-talking groove. Popcaan’s “Man A Murdera” is the obvious anchor, but it sits nicely beside Raytid’s “Shot A Beat Like Slave” and Teflon’s “Bad Wid Di Bounce, ” where the rhythm’s taut bounce gives the artists room to cut through without crowding the mix. Maexztro, Oleada, Tatik and Versitile keep the pressure on across the rest of the sequence, and the whole thing has that rough-edged, late-2010s dancehall snap that felt very current at the time, with no wasted space anywhere.
