Strent Ravers and Darrio set the tone on Waiting Riddim with “New Gyal, ” a cut that gives Bomb Shop Records’ 2012 dancehall set its sharpest hook right out the gate. The project is lean — just three tracks — so every voice has room to breathe, with Da Plan and Formila One chasing that same current on “Girl You Got Me” before Stein closes it out on “Wine And Guh Down Gya, ” the grittiest, most direct moment here. There’s no overcrowding, no extra chatter, just a tight little slice of early-2010s dancehall built around the pull between flirtation and movement. Darrio’s feature is the one that lingers longest, though, and it’s easy to hear why the riddim gets framed around him.
