Violin Crush Riddim arrived in October 2019 from Drop Top Records, the same imprint that later pushed the hit-making Drop Dem Riddim and helped establish the label around modern, melody-heavy dancehall. This one is a glossy, string-tinged cut of the 2010s Jamaican sound, with a bright, almost cinematic lead line sitting over a hard step and enough space for each voice to land cleanly.

Vybz Kartel sets the pace with Great, a pair of raw and clean versions that underline how central he still was to any serious juggling in that period. Chronic Law brings the darker edge on Don’t Change, while Lisa Hyper’s Hot Longtime adds a sharper, more feminine counterpoint to the mix. Shawn Storm turns Heaven and Earth into a streetwise chant with a more reflective pull, and Sikka Rymes closes the circle on Popsicle with the kind of youthful, playful energy he was already turning into a calling card.

What makes the riddim work is the balance between polish and pressure. It sounds made for radio, but the bounce still carries enough grit for sound system play. Drop Top kept the roster tight enough that each cut gets a real run, and the result feels less like a scattershot compilation than a focused slice of late-2019 dancehall, anchored by Kartel and strengthened by the contrast between Law’s intensity, Lisa Hyper’s bite, and Sikka Rymes’ lighter touch.
