Sexperience Riddim – Shab Don Records

Shab Don Records turns Sexperience Riddim into a rowdy, female-led dancehall set that arrived in 2019 under the Shab Don Records / IamWavMusic banner. The release runs 14 tracks and landed on October 4, 2019, with distribution through 21st Hapilos. Shab Don Records is the Kingston production duo of Linval “Shabba” Thompson Jnr. and Carlos Clarke, a camp that had already made noise through the G6ixx and One Don waves before this one.

The riddim itself has that sharp, modern dancehall snap: taut drums, a clipped low end, and a bright, stripped-back groove that leaves room for attitude rather than heavy arrangement. It plays like a party-starter built for confident, explicit DJ cuts, with the vocalists working different angles of sex, power, teasing and self-possession instead of trying to sound sweet. Dovey Magnum’s “Sex Is Lovely” sets the tone with her bawdy, direct style, while Shauna Controlla’s “My Way” and NeeQah’s “Gifted” keep the energy flirtatious and assertive.

The strongest pulls are the names that bring distinct personalities to the same groove. Sheba’s “3some, ” Starface’s “Bruk It Off, ” Clymaxx’s “Top Striker, ” Kwenshade’s “Strip Tease, ” Stylysh’s “Obsession, ” Goaldigga’s “Mi Luv It Ruff, ” and Lisa Hyper’s “Mission Impossible” all help the project stay lively and unruly rather than repetitive. Lisa Hyper’s cut in particular adds a veteran edge, while Dovey Magnum gives the riddim its clearest identity from the jump.
