UPSTATE RIDDIM produced by COLD CASE RECORDS/17TH STREET PRODUCTIONS 2018
Upstate Overview
In 2018, the dancehall scene was buzzing with new riddims, but one project quickly became the selector’s favorite for the dance floor. The journey started in a Kingston studio, where the craftsman behind the boards worked late into the night, shaping the Upstate Riddim. Every sound was chosen for its energy, aiming to make people move as soon as the needle dropped. COLD CASE RECORDS/17TH STREET PRODUCTIONS, known for their sharp ear and steady hand in dancehall, took the lead as producer. The label had already built a name for quality releases and had seen success with previous riddim projects, making them a trusted source in the genre. When it was time to voice the riddim, only the right artists were called. Aktiv stepped up with “Keep Them Talking,” adding his signature delivery. Aktiv is well known for his single “High Grade Alone,” which made waves in the dancehall community. Daddy Spine and Alisha came together on “Wait On You,” blending their vocals for a true bashment anthem. Hot Ya Now brought the heat with “Nuklear,” and Jae Prynse delivered “9 Months,” adding his own flavor. Jae Prynse, by this time, was already recognized for his song “Try Harder,” which had found its way onto local charts. From the first preview, selectors knew this project was built for the dance. When it finally dropped, Upstate Riddim stood tall among the heavy bashment releases of 2018, with every track carrying the stamp of studio skill and pure dancehall energy.
