Up Riddim – Evidence Music

Evidence Music and Heavy Roots link up here for a clean 2017 juggling built on a bright, rolling reggae foundation with enough drive to keep the selector moving. Evidence Music is the Geneva-based label founded in 2013 by Nicolas Meury, Nicolas Maître and Etienne Maître, and by the time this set arrived it was already working a serious catalogue across roots, dub and modern reggae. Heavy Roots, the Spanish production outfit tied to the riddim, give the set its shape from behind the boards.

The release runs with three vocal cuts, a medley and an instrumental, and that format suits the tune well. Shaggy opens with “Up Up Up, ” bringing his easy, melodic delivery and upbeat push. Million Stylez follows with “Life Knocks You Down, ” which adds a more conscious, steady-handed counterpoint. Rayvon’s “Trouble Again” brings the familiar singjay charm he built across years of work alongside Shaggy and on his own, and it sits naturally inside the set’s smooth, sunlit swing.

The title medley pulls the voices together over the same groove, while Heavy Roots close with the instrumental, letting the skanking guitar, crisp drums and open bassline carry the riddim on its own. It is not a heavy roots sledgehammer; it has a lighter, radio-friendly lift, but the production keeps enough roots structure in place to make the vocals feel anchored rather than floating.
