The African Riddim leans into a proud, rootsy reggae feel, with eight different voices riding the same 2017 Masterclass Media groove. Action Fire’s “African Girl” sets the tone early, while Johnny Diamond’s “Strong Like a Lion” adds a sharper, more militant edge to the set; together they hint at a riddim that’s aiming for uplift as much as rhythm. Bunny Voice, Shotta and Vyko keep the concept moving with songs that circle around identity, love and Black consciousness, and the whole thing has that steady, unhurried pulse that lets the chants breathe. It’s a compact one-riddim session, but the title track idea is clear enough, right down to Yaashanti Kemai’s “Calling Her Children” tucked in near the finish.
