Burial Riddim 80s Juggling – 2017 Tads Records

Tad’s Records puts the Burial Riddim 80s Juggling in a tight little roots-and-dub frame, and the naming gives away the joke before the first bassline lands: “Another One Bite the Dust, ” “Ashes to Ashes and The Dust to Dust, ” “Burial, ” and “Resurrection Dub” all lean into the funeral theme with that sturdy late-’80s dancehall pulse. Tad’s Roots Band handles the whole set, which gives the project a unified feel, more like a band session than a scattered juggling. The most memorable cut is probably “Chant Rastaman Chant, ” where the militant edge softens into something more meditative, while “Burial” keeps the low end heavy and matter-of-fact. It’s a small release, really, but that’s part of its charm, with five tracks and no wasted motion.
