Artform Riddim – One Wise Sound

Out of the 2017 modern roots stream, Artform Riddim feels like one of those One Wise Sound drops that quietly pulled a sharp little circle of voices into the same groove. Cutty Ranks comes in with Froggy Madds on “Ready Fi Teach Dem, ” and that harder, veteran edge sits nicely beside Delly Ranx’s more conversational “Reggae and Dancehall” and I-Octane’s ganja-rooted “Weed Freedom. ” The rest of the cast keeps the energy moving with Stevie Culture, Gappy Ranks, Jahdan Blakkamoore and Anthony B, so the riddim never locks into one mood for too long. There’s a clean, conscious sway to it rather than anything overly flashy, which suits One Wise Sound’s steady hand here; even the title track feels like a small nod to the craft behind the project, almost as an afterthought.
