Top Soil Riddim – Young Vibez Production

Young Vibez Production had this one out in 2012, and Top Soil Riddim sits right in that early-2010s dancehall pocket where streetwise singjay cuts and youth-ambition themes were doing a lot of the work. The label behind it is Young Vibez, the production outfit launched by Jamie Roberts out of the old Shocking Vibes offices, carrying forward a family name that already had serious weight in Jamaican music.

The riddim itself runs as a juggling piece with ten voices, and the tracklist is confirmed by Bugle, Chan Dizzy, Eva Hype, Jahmiel, Jego Letal, Konshens, Laden, Propa Fade, T’Nez and Versatile. The songs circle the same hard-headed center: hustling, survival, pride, forward motion, and the pressure to keep moving even when the odds are stacked. Jahmiel’s “Hustling” fits the moment cleanly, the kind of determined chant that would later become one of his signatures. Konshens brings his sharp, melodic confidence to “We A Look It, ” while Laden’s “Ghetto Youths” gives the riddim a more rooted, community-minded pulse. Bugle’s “Yolo” adds a lighter, more reflective note, and Versatile’s “Real Gyaliss” keeps one foot in party territory.

The sound is lean and forward-driving, with a clean digital bounce that leaves plenty of room for each deejay’s phrasing. It has the feel of a working dancehall rhythm rather than a glossy crossover attempt, and that is exactly why it holds up: the voices are different, but the energy stays unified.
