Top Flava Riddim – Glion Records

GLion Records kept Top Flava moving like a proper juggling tape, pairing veteran voices with newer names over a dancehall cut that was meant to feel like the old days without sounding dated. The project landed in November 2021 and was jointly produced with Xpanda Muzik Production, with producer Vinci Lion saying the aim was to bring back that juggling feeling to dancehall. It was also framed as a follow-up step for a label that had already been working the circuit with earlier productions like Mount Zion.

The strongest pull here is the mix of generations. Louie Culture brings the weight of a 1990s foundation artist, and Wuk Fi Life fits that hard-living, streetwise mode he has always carried. Bugle’s My Choice has the kind of reflective, self-directed writing that made him one of the more dependable conscious-leaning dancehall voices of the last decade, while Shane O’s Live Yuh Life pushes the feel-good, keep-going message that suits party season. Those three songs give the riddim its spine.

Around them, the newer cuts keep the energy moving. Lady Lee, Vyzadon, JeV, Pohtent, Vandal, Substannzz, Famus Flames, T Drive, Thugsy Malone and Craig Ed East all help turn the riddim into a proper juggling exercise rather than a star vehicle alone. The beat itself sits in that upbeat, punchy dancehall lane, with an old-school bounce that leaves room for clear hooks, nimble deejay phrasing and hustler talk. It plays best as a late-year street riddim, the kind built for repeat spins and selector rotation.
