Straight out of the 2012 dancehall run, Tonic Wine Riddim captures that era when a sharp, mid-tempo juggling could carry a whole slate of fast-talking young voices without crowding anybody out. Clear Air Production keeps the rhythm lean and playful, and the tracklist moves from Aflare’s rough-edged Dash It Out into Andre Stylish’s smoother Slow Wine and Cubanis’ Before Them Diss We, before Kantana and Vershion each get double shots with radio and raw versions. That split between clean and uncut versions gives the project a little extra pressure, especially when Kantana steps up on She Bad and Vershion follows with Banana. Kemmikal’s Cyaan Run My Life keeps the energy locked in, but it’s the Kantana cut that leaves the sharpest mark on this one.
