Toaster Riddim (2017) – Knatural Entertainment

A greasy, mid-tempo dancehall cut with a sly singjay swing sits at the core of Toaster Riddim, and Knatural Entertainment lines it with voices that keep the energy jumping from the jump. General Degree’s “Pon U” brings the veteran snap, while Lady Rage’s “Control Yuh” and Savage’s title track push the tougher side of the project; Janice’s “Falling In Love” and G Mac’s “Turn Back Virgin” tilt it a little more playful and melodic. It feels like a producer keeping one foot in sound-system pressure and the other in crowd-ready party chatter, not far from the label’s earlier straight-ahead dancehall work but a touch more polished and open in the mix. With 18 tracks and 16 different artists, this sits neatly in Knatural’s 2017 output as one of those various-artist riddims built for selectors who like plenty of options.
