Timespace Riddim – Buzzwak Records

A murky little 2012 dancehall set, Timespace Riddim comes in with that early-2010s juggling energy where the producer keeps the rhythm tight and lets the voices do the talking. Buzzwak Records lines up a fairly deep cast here, but the ear is drawn first to Squidley on “Wine, ” especially with Queeny riding alongside him, and to the tougher rub-up of Paradyme’s “Bruk Out” and Ras Choosen’s closing “Life Is Marvellous. ” There are 15 tracks in all, with 17 unique artists across the cut, so it’s one of those projects that keeps shifting the mood without losing the same backbone. The sequence moves from party tunes and girl songs into sharper street talk and then lands on a more reflective finish, which feels like a deliberate arc rather than a random pileup.
