Three voices, one of Jammy’s sharper mid-’80s rhythms: Admiral Bailey’s “Politician, ” Cocoa Tea’s “Come Again, ” and Johnny Osbourne’s “On The Right Track” all ride the same stripped, propulsive groove with that lean digital-era snap Kingston was turning out in 1986. The riddim has a hard skank and a deep, no-nonsense low end, which leaves plenty of room for each singer to work the pocket rather than crowd it. Bailey comes in with the most talkative cut, Cocoa Tea brings the sweetest melodic touch, and Osbourne closes the set by leaning into the rhythm’s steady forward motion. It’s a short Jammys package, but the sequencing keeps the energy taut all the way to the final pass on “On The Right Track. ”
