THREE BLIND MICE RIDDIM 1975 UPSETTER RECORDS
Three Blind Mice Overview
The one drop base is a sound that people still remember when they talk about classic reggae. This drum pattern, with its heavy emphasis on the third beat, became the heartbeat of roots reggae. It gave singers and deejays a strong foundation to build their songs. The Three Blind Mice Riddim is one example where this one drop rhythm shines. Several well-known artists brought their own style to this riddim. Leo Graham, famous for his song "Three Blind Mice," gave the track a soulful and spiritual touch. King Tubbys, a legend in dub music, added his own flavor with "Threetimes Three." His work in the 1970s changed the way people think about remixing and effects in reggae. Lee Perry and Leonard Dillon teamed up for "Im a Dread Locks," mixing Perry’s unique production with Dillon’s roots vocals. Lee Perry is especially known for his work with Bob Marley and his Black Ark studio, which created many reggae classics. The Upsetters, Lee Perry’s house band, played on several tracks like "Dread Locks Version," "Boloman Skank," and "Lizard Tounge Rock," showing their deep connection to the roots reggae sound. Young Dellinger’s "Emsome City Skank" and I Roy’s "Dread In The West" also appear, each bringing their own energy and lyrics. At the center of this project is producer Joe Fraiser. He is known for his careful approach to production and his work with roots and dub artists. Joe Fraiser’s label helped bring the Three Blind Mice Riddim to a wider audience, keeping the classic reggae sound alive in 2021. This recording remains a strong part of reggae history, showing how the one drop base and talented artists keep the music moving forward.
