Things And Time is one of those riddims that has lived several lives, but the 1999 Jammys version is its own late-era dancehall moment. It comes from King Jammy’s camp, the studio and label imprint that helped define digital dancehall and still knew how to pull veteran voices into a modern juggling. The tune itself rides a lean, insistent groove with a clipped bassline and enough space for the singers to work the melody rather than fight the rhythm. It has that late-’90s feel: polished, but still tough at the edges.

The lineup is strong because it bridges generations and styles. Admiral Tibet opens with “Leave People Business, ” playing to his righteous, conversational delivery. Bushman’s “Whats The Matter With The World” pushes the conscious angle further, while Freddie McGregor’s “Get Ready” brings the kind of warm, seasoned vocal command that always suits a rootsy dancehall cut. Gregory Isaacs adds his unmistakable bittersweet tone on “Girls Of My Mind, ” and Frankie Paul’s “Your Mind” gives the riddim a sharper lovers’ edge. Ian Sweetness and Little Richie keep the flow moving, and Johnny P’s “Fight Fi Old Buck” adds a rougher streetwise energy. Colin Roach, Candy Man, Delroy Smart and Ernest Wilson deepen the set, giving the riddim a broad, veteran-heavy cast.

What makes this one work is the balance: conscious tune, lovers tune, rub-a-dub tune, all sitting on the same framework. That is classic Jammys thinking, and it is exactly why Things And Time still feels like a proper dancehall juggling rather than a random pile of voices.
