THE HEALER RIDDIM produced by MAXIMUM SOUND 2021
The Healer Overview
In 2021, reggae music fans saw a new wave of creativity with the release of a special rhythm project. This project, built on a solid reggae foundation, brought together a group of talented artists and celebrated the long tradition of rhythm-driven reggae releases. The rhythm, or “riddim,” became a gathering point for unique voices and styles, reflecting the energy and spirit of the reggae community. A key part of the project’s sound came from the dub engineer. Dub engineers are known for shaping reggae music by adding echoes, reverb, and other effects. Their work gives songs a deeper and more atmospheric feel. On this project, Gregory Morris contributed “Healer Dub,” which showed the importance of dub in reggae’s evolution and its ability to create a meditative mood. The producer behind the project was MAXIMUM SOUND, a respected name in reggae production. MAXIMUM SOUND, founded by Frenchie in the 1990s, has worked with many top reggae artists and is known for high-quality releases. The label’s consistent output has made it a staple in reggae circles, helping to introduce new rhythms and artists to fans worldwide. The project featured strong performances from artists like Busy Signal, who is well known for hits such as “Stay So.” His song “Burdens Heavy” stands out with its heartfelt delivery. Romain Virgo, famous for his chart-topping album “Lovesick” in 2018, contributed “Can’t Stop Reggae.” Christopher Ellis, the son of reggae legend Alton Ellis, added “Playlist.” Other artists included Pressure Busspipe with “Everything I Need,” Stevie Face with “Till We Meet Again,” Ginjah with “People Talk,” Lia Caribe with “True Love,” and Marvin Priest with “I Swear.” Together, these artists and songs made the 2021 rhythm project a memorable cultural moment for reggae music.
