The Do It Riddim (2018) – Good Good Productions

Good Good Productions’ Do It Riddim arrived in 2018 as a straight-up dancehall juggling with enough weight to move from street speakers to playlists fast. The label behind it had already been carving out a lane for hard, modern Jamaican instrumentals, and this one sits neatly in that run: lean, bass-heavy, and built for voice combinations as much as for solo shellings.

The rhythm has that clipped, forward-driving feel that works best when the deejay comes in sharp and unsentimental. Vybz Kartel’s “Do It” is the anchor, all sly command and hook economy, while Govana’s “One N Move” brings his witty, talkative style to the same pocket with a more playful edge. Yanique “Curvy Diva” Barrett adds a different texture on “Mineable, ” cutting through with personality and a radio-friendly delivery that keeps the track light on its feet. I-Octane and Zum’s “Oh No” folds melody into the mix, and Teejay’s “100 Bricks” pushes the riddim back toward raw street talk. The instrumental is clean enough to let each voice keep its own shape, which is part of the appeal.

This was also a telling line-up for 2018 dancehall: Kartel was still the genre’s defining presence, Govana was building momentum as one of the sharper new-generation lyricists, Teejay was rising out of Montego Bay with a melodic attack, and Yanique was expanding beyond TV and personality into the recording lane. The result is a juggling that feels tuned to the moment rather than retrofitted to it.
