Tekk On Riddim – Subkonshus Music

Subkonshus Music and D and H lined up Tekk On Riddim in 2012 as a dancehall juggling built for the dancefloor, with a sharp, uptempo swing and enough space for both melody and hard-edged talk. The riddim sits in Konshens’ Subkonshus era, when his label was already pushing his own singles and a wider circle of voices through the same production network. The instrumental has that early-2010s digital bite: brisk drums, a pulsing bassline, bright synth stabs and a driving forward motion that keeps the whole thing moving fast.

Konshens anchors the project with “Hot Patty” in both raw and edit versions, and “Badman Settinz” also turns up in the same dual treatment. That pair gives the riddim its most recognisable identity, balancing swagger and hook-heavy repetition. Beenie Man’s “Gal I Know Yuh, ” Tarrus Riley’s “Center of Attraction, ” and Voicemail’s “Shuffle Up” broaden the palette, bringing veteran charisma, smoother melody and a more playful group energy into the mix. “We Nuh Frighten Fe Nobody” from Hitmaker, “The Sunshine” from Malkijah, “Old School Style” from Darrio, and “Ghetto Youth” from Sam X keep the street level intact, while cuts from artists like Tiwony, Cali P, Million Stylez and Little Dany show how widely the rhythm travelled beyond Jamaica.

What makes Tekk On land is the contrast between its sleek, almost glossy production and the war-ready lyrics riding over it. It has the feel of a sound-system weapon that could work in a club, a mix, or a juggling set without losing momentum.
