Tampa Riddim (Set 2) produced by Easy Star Records 2025
Tampa Overview
Rocksteady music began in Jamaica during the late 1960s, bringing a slower and smoother sound than ska. This style shaped the roots reggae era, and its influence remains strong today. The new Tampa Riddim release shows how this classic flow still inspires modern reggae. Easy Star Records, the producer of this project, is known for bringing reggae to a global audience. Founded in New York City in 1996, the label has released major projects like “Dub Side of the Moon,” which re-imagined Pink Floyd’s album in a reggae style and spent years on Billboard’s Reggae Albums chart. This compilation features four artists, each with a unique voice. Army Gideon delivers “Healing,” sharing a message of hope and restoration. Army Gideon is known for his conscious lyrics and uplifting performances. Balaguero’s track, “Legalize It,” adds a strong cultural message. Balaguero, a Spanish reggae artist, is recognized for his work in spreading reggae music across Europe. Iotosh brings “Frontline” to the riddim. Iotosh, a Jamaican producer and singer, has worked with Protoje and was nominated for a Grammy for his production on Protoje’s “In Search of Lost Time.” Shemeika’s “Sweetest Name” adds a smooth, melodic touch, showing her talent as a rising singer in the reggae scene. Tampa Riddim mixes deep roots and modern messages, blending culture and storytelling. This rocksteady-inspired project marks another strong step for roots reggae, keeping the music’s message alive for new listeners.
