Taliban Riddim came out in 2002 on Ajang Records, the dancehall imprint run by Jermaine Forde. Forde’s name turns up all through Ajang’s catalogue, and the label has long sat in that UK-rooted, sound-system-minded lane where hard drums and strong digital lines carry the tunes. This riddim also shows up under the alternate name Slam Riddim.
The set is driven by a rough, stripped-down juggling with a tense, street-level feel rather than a glossy club sheen. The beat leaves plenty of space for the voices to cut through, and the whole thing has that early-2000s energy where sound clash mentality meets crossover UK and Jamaican dancehall. General Levy’s Taliban Slam is the obvious anchor cut, with his fast-talking delivery giving the rhythm a sharp, commanding edge. Cutty Ranks brings extra weight on Chill Chill and again on Informer Fi Dead alongside Cash Money and Redd Man, which gives the project some of its toughest moments. Tubby T’s Tales Of The Hood Refix draws on the UK dancehall side of the release, while Baby Sam’s Movie Star, Fire Fly’s Raging Storm, Richie Brown’s Good Love, and Sergeant D’s Jah Bless Me fill out a roster that balances veteran presence with lesser-known voices.
It is the kind of riddim that works because it stays direct: rugged production, strong personalities, and a hooky, militant pulse that still feels locked to its time.
