Warm and spare, Take Care Riddim carries that mid-2000s dancehall feel where the groove does the talking and the voicing stays lean. Soweedo Records keeps the set tight with six tracks and eight artists, moving from Apach’s blunt “Thug” to Daara-J’s more conscious “People Have To Care, ” then into the French-language cut from Daddy Mory and the playful pairing of Harry Toddler and Mr Face on “Look Gal. ” The sequencing leans into contrast, so the tougher cuts sit alongside the more melodic and socially minded ones without breaking the flow. “Bad and Dangerous” from Siaka and Kory gives the riddim its roughest edge, while Soha’s “Ghetto Ceremony” closes it out with a little more weight.
