Sweet Thing Riddim – Irie Sounds International

2016 was still a busy year for single-riddim reggae projects, and Sweet Thing Riddim from Irie Sounds International sits right in that lane with a compact six-song set and seven voices. The production leans toward a clean roots-digital feel rather than anything overly glossy, with a steady one-drop pulse, clipped guitar skank and a low bassline that keeps the whole thing moving without crowding the singers. Chukie Steele’s “This Is What It Comes To” and Spragga Lion’s “Di Ting” are the immediate cuts, while Earth Disciples and Wissy Wassy bring a more reflective tone to the riddim’s smoother side. Ras Dias and I-Noble add another layer on “Bredda Bredda, ” giving the release a little more texture in the middle. It’s a mid-tempo pattern built for straightforward chanting and measured phrasing, with the bass doing most of the heavy lifting underneath.
