2012 was still deep in that era when roots-driven one-riddim projects were giving newer labels a way to make a clean first impression, and Sweet Music Riddim Vol. 1 does exactly that for 7 Seals Records. The cut has a warm, easy swing rather than anything too aggressive, which leaves room for the voices to do the talking: Khari Kill’s “Hail Di I” and Bigga Haitian’s “Warrior” both land with real weight, while Jah Defender’s “No Feel No Way” brings a tougher edge to the set. There’s a nice cross-Caribbean feel too, with artists from Guadeloupe, Martinique, Trinidad, Jamaica and Haiti tucked into the lineup, and the project was presented as the first part of a trilogy from the French label. The megamix closes things out neatly, making this feel like the start of a bigger run rather than a one-off.
