Swazzi Riddim – Diwali Records

A compact five-voiced dancehall set, Swazzi Riddim lines up Zumjay, Bling Dawg, Qq, Firelinks and Bugsy Malone around Lenky Marsden’s instrumental, with Marsden also fronting the title cut. It’s the kind of late-2010s Diwali Records project that keeps the focus on the rhythm first: a lean, percussive groove with clipped synth accents, a heavy low end and enough open space for the deejays to ride their hooks cleanly. Zumjay’s “Nah Go Fall” and Bling Dawg’s “Pon Mi Mind” sit neatly against Qq’s “Wine, ” which pushes the pattern a little harder into the party side. The riddim moves at a brisk, straight-ahead tempo, and the sharp bass line gives the whole set its bite.
