Survivor Riddim (2009) – DJ Frass Production

Survivor Riddim comes in hard with that lean, street-ready DJ Frass sound: crisp drums, plenty of low-end, and just enough room for the vocalists to cut through without clutter. Bugle’s Psalms A Day gives the set its spiritual pulse, while Mavado’s Fall Rain Fall lands with the kind of gritty weight that made his 2009 run so sharp; Elephant Man keeps things choppy and urgent on Do It Nuh, and Mr Vegas and Chase Cross each add their own pressure points. There’s also a cleaner, more melodic side to it with Serani’s Love In My Heart, which softens the edges without breaking the mood. Coming out in 2009, the riddim sits right in that era when dancehall was favoring dark, hard-snapping productions and artist-driven one-drop hooks.
