Out of 2004’s reggae crop, Spider Web Riddim sits in that lean, focused corner where one voice carries the whole idea, and here that voice is Sizzla over Web Int Production’s spare, nervy cut. The three songs — “Cash In My Pocket, ” “Dig It Out, ” and “Such An Adventure” — keep the energy locked on his militant phrasing, with the rhythm section sounding taut rather than flashy, more wiry pulse than big-room slam. That makes sense for a year when roots-leaning dancehall and conscious reggae were still pulling hard from the same streetwise current, and Sizzla was one of the artists who could ride that middle ground without losing bite. It’s a small release, but the single-artist setup gives the riddim a sharp, uncluttered shape that feels very much of its time.
