So Special Riddim – Kevin Kc Charles

Kevin Kc Charles takes a fairly direct 2012 dancehall set and turns it into a compact seven-song showcase, with each singer getting room to push a different corner of the same rhythm. The names here aren’t the usual big-carnival heavyweight lineup, which gives the riddim a more local, almost community-session feel, but the energy stays firmly on the dancefloor side: Icon’s “Whine Up Yuh Body” leans into the slack and playful, while Banco’s “King” and First Lady’s “No Matta” keep the cut moving with sharper, more clipped phrasing. Leya’s “My Body” with Banco and Bud Ramsay’s “If Its Alright” with Demi Dabady add a little more sweetness without softening the riddim’s hard edges.

Rabbit closes it out with “Youre Special in My Life, ” and that last track leaves the project on a more romantic note, which suits a rhythm that keeps one foot in straight dancehall and the other in lovers territory.
